Violin Card

Monday, 3 November 2008

I was asked by a colleague at work to create a classical music card for a 21st birthday. I had already decided on the notes and the name tag, but then it looked a bit bare. I need a musical instrument and decided on a violin. I used a cut file by Jen C (Cricut forum), but because I didn't have the cartridge to cut it out, I cut all the parts out by hand and strung the bow and violin.

Cards for Men

Sunday, 2 November 2008

These are the hardest cards for me to do. I try and keep them plain and neutral and only do a theme if I'm asked. They can easily be adapted for son, brother etc. Most of these were made for Fathers Day. Sorry about the quality of some of the pics, but our camera is poorly and at the hospital.

Chocolate Christmas Cards

Thursday, 30 October 2008

I'm doing my first craft fayre in November with my mum. I wanted to make something Christmassy for the children that wouldn't take to long to make. You never know how your first fayre will go. The cards were made with odds and ends I had, plus some chocolate shapes I bought in my local supermarket.

Kami Sweetie

Kami Sweetie

I was asked by a colleague at work to create a birthday card for a girlfriend. She asked for red, hearts, bling and the words Kami Sweetie as it's her nickname. I started with very red hearts but felt it was a bit to Wedding/Valentine, so I went for a more maroon red. I used my Cuttlebug to emboss the hearts and a swirl stamp for the border. I added glitter to the swirls. I then finished it off with ribbon and beads.

Materials Used - Cream cardblank, Maroon cardstock, Cricut with Opposites Attract, Cuttlebug with Curls and Swirls Embossing Folder, Swirl Stamps, Chalk Ink, Glitter, Ribbon, Eyelets, Bead wire, Beads, Half Pearls.

Paper Doll Cards

Wednesday, 15 October 2008

I recently bought the Paper Dolls cartridge. I nearly didn't buy it but I'm so glad I did. It is such fun and there are so many things you can do with it.

WSB Challenge 1The 1st card, You're so Sweet, was made for the Whimsical Scraps and Bugs 1st challenge. I was delighted to be chosen to design for them. Check out all the designs on the blog.

I really enjoyed making this card, the papers are such fun and I made the sweets too.

I've had a few people ask me how I made the sweets. Here it is - I cut 3 small ovals of chipboard and covered them with glitter paper. I then cut 3 small rectangles of cellophane (I used a bag that I sell my cards in) wrapped them round the ovals, twisted the ends and tied with metallic thread.

Materials used - Yellow and red cardstock, Orange, brown and black paper, Yellow, orange and brown glitter paper, DCWV Glitter Sweet Stack, Cricut plus Paper Doll Dress Up and George and Basic Shapes, Mini Alphabet stamps, Chipboard, Cloud White and Pink Petunia chalk inks, Dovecraft Shimmer Chalks, Coloured Pencils, Silver and gold thread, Cellophane, Fibre, Green eyelets.

Joshuas 18Card 2- Hooray I'm 18, was made for my sons 18th birthday. This was the 1st card I made with the cart. He always wears check shirts and skinny jeans, so I tried to match the doll as best I could.

Materials used - Brown cardstock, Basic Grey Archaic papers, Paper Doll Dress Up cart, Mini Alphabet stamps, Chipboard, Brown chalk ink, Dovecraft Shimmer Chalks, Coloured Pencils, String and Rafia, Orange eyelets.

Gone FishinCard 3 - Gone Fishin, was made for a colleague at work. Her son has just been promoted in the fishing industry and wanted me to make a fishing card. Another excuse to use the cart ...... I thought.

Materials used - Blue cardstock, papers, Paper Doll Dress Up cart, Mini Alphabet stamps, Chipboard, Blue chalk ink, Dovecraft Shimmer Chalks, Coloured Pencils, String and Rafia, Blue eyelets

My Stamping Efforts

Thursday, 2 October 2008

I've never been good at stamping but I've decided to keep trying. I've discovered clear stamps and much prefer these to the wooden ones. I saw a technique in a magazine, where you mask off part of the card and stamp in the space. I'd never done this before and was pleased with my efforts. I transferred the idea to the flower, by inking and stamping onto plain white paper. I then cut a square out and glued it onto card. I then ran this through the Cuttlebug using the Sizzix Flower Tag die. The first card was for my sons girlfriends 21st birthday. She loved it.

Back from Florida and spent to much!!

I've just got back after 2 fantastic weeks in Florida. 90 degrees everyday, glorious sunshine and I've spent far too much! Some of the things I wanted, I just couldn't get in the shops such as the new Cuttlebug folders and a Pull-ez. But I decided to make my own after seeing the idea on the Cricut forum. I'm really pleased how it turned out. The bag came from Walmart and I just punched holes in it with an eyelet punch. I've actually got more holes in it than the one you buy.

Michaels had a Cricut cartridge sale on while I was there. Most carts for $40. I was only going to buy 2 but I bought 4 - Paper Doll Dress Up, Opposites Attract, Stretch Your Imagination and Beyond Birthdays. They are so much cheaper than buying in the UK. I also bought rub-ons, ribbons, brads, paper stacks, stamps and other bits and pieces. I now need to stop spending and get creating.

Flower Vase

Sunday, 7 September 2008

I've recently bought the Walk in my Garden cartridge. I decided to have a play with it and came up with this card. There is so much on this cart, that's it's really hard to decide what to cut first.

Materials used - Cream Card Blank, Basic Grey Papers, Autumn Leaves Clear Stamps by Rhonna Farrer Swirls, Ribbon, Half Pearls, Chalk Ink, Sentiment Rub-ons

Stamps from Nepal

My sons girlfriend, Sam has recently visited Nepal where she was shadowing doctors, learning how they treat patients. While there, she bought me these gorgeous stamps of an Ostrich, Giraffe and Butterfly. They are made of wood and are all hand carved. The card is also handmade. The colours are so rich with a splash of gold.

I had a play with the Butterfly stamp. Above shows what the stamp looks like. I really like it, quite different from what I've seen in the shops.

Chirper Challenge No 3

Sunday, 31 August 2008

Challenge No 3 was to include a star, bling/glitter and a white space. I really enjoyed making the orange wooden doll card and was pleased how it turned out. I tried so hard not to make a Christmas card, but I couldn't resist. I really enjoy these challenges, they take you out of your comfort zone. Most of us go through a stage where we have no inspiration. Taking part in a challenge helps to get the creative juices going again. It's great fun. I recommend joining a challenge group if you can.

I made these 2 cards for the Chirper Challenge. Our challenge was to create a card or layout including a flower, the colour blue and use the sketch below. I couldn't decide which card I liked best so I submitted them both.
